PRESS RELEASE: ZEP Instructor Academy

The ZEP Instructor Academy, running since 2007, is once again taking place in Whistler this season. The 3 or 5 week long comprehensive training camps provide the mountain bike training experience of a lifetime, while learning how to teach and guide beginner to intermediate riders.

Unique to ZEP, the Instructor Academy also acts as the official hiring camp for Whistler Bike Park, for those participants interested in working in Whistler, post camp. This is a perfect opportunity for riders who wish to follow their passion for mountain biking and begin a career as a mountain bike coach. Yes, you can get paid to ride bikes in Whistler for the summer!

ZEP Instructor Training Camp
The new Creekside expansion and trails in Whistler Bike Park make for some genuine lifetime memories!

The camps are designed for intermediate to advanced riders and are coached by the most experienced instructor-trainers in the industry who not only coach the ZEP camps, but are also Directors and Course Conductors for the world’s largest provider of mountain bike instructor certifications; the PMBI Association. ZEP's Coaches have trained riders, coaches and pro's around the world and love nothing more to share this expertise with our Instructor Academy Campers.

The training includes three core components:
• Riding skill development
• Instructor training
• Instructor development
bigquotesThe ZEP camp was undoubtedly the best and most valuable five weeks I have had on a mountain bike. The camp was an incredible learning experience, both for improving my own riding and learning how to teach others to improve theirs, too.Rory

ZEP Instructor Training Camp
Coaching mountain biking has to be one of the most rewarding jobs out there. Paul, ZEP's Owner and Head Coach, is starting his 20th year coaching this season!

Campers will develop their riding skills in a safe, progressive manner as the ZEP coaches use their experience to tailor each day to the groups skills, energy levels and weather conditions. Along with a season lift pass and lift line priority, ZEP campers will find new limits to their riding and discover the next level of confidence, style and consistency.

The next step in the training is for campers to prepare and take the PMBIA Level 1 Instructor Course; the official certification of Whistler Bike Park and the most recognized professional mountain bike instructor certification in the world. This develops the riding, guiding and teaching skills further and certifies them to teach beginner to intermediate mountain bikers, in both lift-accessed bike park and cross country trail environments. The final training component continues to develop the stoke factor as campers receive further coaching and instructor training.

Each day's coaching is tailored to suit the groups abilities and energy levels, so everyone progresses at their own pace.

The training philosophy of ZEP uses small group sizes to benefit from quality, personalized learning and includes on-trail video analysis, individual feedback and pump track sessions. Students also get the opportunity to shadow ZEP Coaches teaching other ZEP MTB Skills Camps and Private Lessons. The ZEP Instructor Academy includes a Whistler Bike Park Seasons Pass, so campers can shred from dawn till dusk! Additional seminars on nutrition, strength and conditioning training, bike and suspension set up further develop the students to become the best coaches and riders they can be.

bigquotesA highlight of the camp for me was the confidence boost from having a trained eye believe that, "yes you can" ride that feature. This helped me push myself and I managed to ride some features and trails I don't think I would have ridden otherwise. Stoke levels were high!Jo

It's not all work, work, work... campers get plenty of free time to shred the park in the evenings and on days off!
