powergavin - Just for you! We did a 6 hour ride, 15oC - 4oC, total climbing of 1000m in sun, rain, sleet. I wore them the whole ride, they were comfortable and nice and warm when it got nasty! They were dry by the next day too.

They would probably be all right. If I was on a 3-4 hour pedaling bike ride it probably wouldn't be one that I needed armour. We spent 6 hours shuttling yesterday and I kept them on all day and they were comfortable.

How do Knee Pads or Shin Pads help your riding?

less fear of crashing and hurting your knees. Shin pads not so much. Having fallen on my knees and having my bike land on my knee it does make a difference in my confidence in some technical sections.
