100% Escapeizm

So I asked myself the question, Why do you ride ? Waddlebla ridge gave me my answer!

The tranquil nature of the forest. Punctuated by the shredding of the Gnar. Both are forms of escapism from our trials and tribulations of every day life. Breath in the fresh air, relax. then Shred like your on fire! Life is good!

True,it is! When there are plenty of other legitimate outdoor pursuits on offer its good to ask why do I choose biking? I think the main thing that keeps me hooked is how autonomous and independent it allows/encourages you to be.. on a solo ride especially. Its good not to have to rely on other people for your own happiness!

Spectacular Escapeizm! I must have the same disease! Fun rocky trial with some very fun drops, jumps, gaps and berms! The Booter suits you perfectly! RideOn!!

Yes, we share the same disease! Too steep and technical up the top but plenty fun and flowy thru middle, good track all round and the Bootr is a great bike for DH fun.

WOW, you really ride as a Pro man.. awesome video, great rock garden trails. well dome amigo.

Too kind amigo! The rock garden is really a rock 'slide' as is super steep.. and is super scary to commit to all the lines! Good challenge

Clear in the video how steep it is, especially when the root kicks the back wheel out a bit. You make it look smooth as silk. Well done yet again. Yoku dekita zo.

Cheers reverend.. I rode it again today, this time with a good mate who helped develop Waddleblah since back in the day (94'). To ride with someone who has a deeper connection to the trail as its builder is a real pleasure. Thank you for watching and I hope you are enjoying some good Fall riding weather!

Been riding the road bike a ton (nearly 400 miles in the past 3 weeks commuting) the trials bike quite a bit (even did a comp up in BC a couple of weeks ago) and just got out on the Ibis for the first time in waaaaay too long, and had a fabulous ride. Night rides are back for the winter. Rain is back with a vengeance as well, so it's all good. Can hardly wait to get out and RIDE!!!

Your videos always get me itching to go out and ride right now.

Trials.. cool! Moto or pushy? Sounds like you enjoy many different types of riding. To ride a different bike everyday of the week would be a golden week!

biketrials. Spent a couple of hours on the campus of the University of Washington last night. Sore today from trying and failing (aka trying and 5ing) to get across a tractor tire all on the rear wheel. The old man's got his work cut out for him trying to learn this stuff largely on my own (regular riding buddy with whom I learn, and then a phenomenal expert rider whom we see with some regularity who gives us insight we couldn't gain on our own.)
Keeps me young! I'll be 50 in January.

Yea, Road bike, mtb, Trials and my Ducati would make a pretty cool week. Been thinking of trying to rig up a bike rack to the Duck so I can take the trials bike with me to Seattle for rides. That'd be fun, though in the winter the wet and cold would be less enjoyable late at night than the comfort of a heated passenger compartment and the ability to nibble on some goodies and down some water on the drive home...

Trials sounds like a lot of fun.. have been hoping to find a 2nd hand trials bike for a while but for whatever reason there are none around in this part of the world. A rack on the duck would be awesome.. I think conv3rt has a photo in his album of a bike rack he had on his vstrom..

Top notch brother, all the way around - editing, trail and riding. Nice ride too, new dh bike?

Cheers Jerry. Waddlebla is a classic ridgeline descent..one of the first in Cairns and still one of the best. Bike is new for me.. 09' Booter.

 exceptional riding bro. killin it.

Too kind brah. Waddlebla is considered the biggest, gnarliest trail in Cairns.. and I have yet to commit to all the lines it offers. On a solo mission its good to play it safe.. plus as you get older there is less drive to really challenge the mountain gods!

My solo mission today went badly. OTB and drove my palm into a rock. Maybe broken bone. Super drag.
  • + 1
Oh man.. sorry to hear that. If its broken.. rest up well and heal ASAP! Glad you made it home ok though. Take care bro
  • + 1
possible fracture but will know more in ten days. that's riding. no animals waiting to eat the fallen biker thankfully. still kickin! i'll be back on the trails in no time.
  • + 1
That's the way! Without the risk it wouldn't be as attractive. Heal quickly and get back out there when you are ready.. I know for me it takes longer to recover mentally than physically. Also to deal with bears and large carnivores is a whole new level of risk on a solo mission!

Nice vid dude ! Your trails are always really nice !!
  • + 1
Cheers dude! Love the natural, hand built trails..as soon as a machine breaks dirt it seems to change somehow..and not always for the best.

 I can't believe you're not a sponsored pro...Hey Mongoose...HINT-HINT!!!!

Haha.. no way! You are too kind, I'm just stoked to ride any chance I get and to share the stoke with friends!
