 looked a bit akward, unweighting the rear wheel and pushing the bars/bike forward without risking a pedal/bb strike works better for me when possible. needs a bit of momentum to pull it off cleanly.

 0.I did unweigh the front, did a small wheelie, and then lunged the bike forward a bit, then gently pushed on the pedal (it's 3/4 pedal stroke technique, I got that stroke very well timed by now on all obstacles) Razz That stretch on the first step was my best attempt at a hip thrust.
1.There's no point in getting more momentum since the whole thing is an uphill pitch and just outside the view there are rocks so the only spot to pedal into this is what you see on camera. Yes you can try to accelerate the bike but it would cost lots of energy, so it feels better to just roll onto it.
2.The distance between both steps is pretty much the length of the bike which means that if I roll in a bit quicker my front wheel will bounce off the second step getting me out of balance. Most of my and other people's fails on this bit is due to front bouncing into the second step. This is what I learned most this year about climbing, there's no point in rushing into shit unless you really have a nice run in. It's much better to do it in a measured way, crawling, rather than climbing Big Grin
3. The perfect treatment for it would be to come at the same speed as I am doing but to make a pedal kick in order to lift the rear, then stop on the first platform, balance it out and get on the second one with another pedal kick, but pedal kicks are still a freaking black magic for me. Trying it on flat almost everyday.

 Smile practice makes perfect tup

 @iffy: Practice makes permanent.

 @WAKIdesigns: Pedal kicks are all about timing the kick along with the hip shift.
Once you've nailed it on the flat you can have all sorts of fun on the trails.

Keep at it!

 @IOMHENDO: I can do hopping in place quite well by now, I can hop forward a bit, but to sync pedal kick with forward hop is tough for me. My tiny way around it, which doesn't really work on trail (yet) is to do a kind of standing wheelie to bunny hop. The issue is that I need at least half of a meter of forward movement to do it. Most importantly it won´t work when I jump onto a steep rocky bit (knowing I have not enough momentum to get up all the way) and try to hop forward, which would be analogical to jumping onto a set of stairs and trying to propell myself forward.

The way I try to do which may be wrong is I get into balance having brakes applied, then I shift my hips back, almost simultaneously backpedalling a bit and then eject forward, relsease brakes and pressing a pedal, but that give me barely double the distance of a regular hop ahead. Is it right and I just need to get coordination right?How much of hip thrust is there? how much should I use my arms. I saw people get the front wheel on the step, balance it, and then eject up&forward using pedal kick.

 Good work! Now hit it backwards and pop the rocks, Yaaaa

 I did but the result didn't live up to my expectations. I tried three times to clear it with a bunny hop. It wasn't a good bunny day Smile

 Not a bunny day, we all have our non bunny days! Cool section for sure!

 well done, do you always ride alone?
  • + 3
 I most cases yes. I have kids and most of my riding buddies don't. I ride when my kids go to bed, that is like 7 or even 8pm, by that time they are often already after a ride and chillin' at home, probably taking a nap. Basterds... Every time I go for a ride during the day and leave my wife alone with the kids, it turns into some old arcade computer game where you have to rescue a princess before the monsters will eat her. In the end, you reach home and it turns out that actually the princess is a monster and she is the ultimate boss to fight hahah Big Grin
