The Summit Bechtel Reserve is looking for experienced passionate mountain bikers who are interested in spending a summer in the New River Gorge sharing the sport with active teenagers and adults. With 35 miles of XC and DH trails, multiple pumptracks, skills courses , dirt jumps and dual slalom courses, the Summit has something for everyone! Owned and operated by the Boy Scouts of America, the Summit Bechtel Reserve provides programming for a wide variety of co-ed youth and adult adventure programs.

TRAIL CREW LEAD:

POSITION CONCEPT Leads, organizes and supervises the Summit Trail Crew. The Trail crew monitors, repairs and maintains the Summit mountain bike trails. The Trail Crew also leads teams of volunteer conservation workers.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES
• Must be 21 years of age at the start of the employment period
• Submit a completed BSA health and medical form.
• Previous experience building and maintaining sustainable MTB trails
• Must meet the Summit BMI requirements: BMI under 32 is approved. BMI between 32 and 39.9 is acceptable provided there are no underlying medical concerns. BMI of 40 and above does not meet the requirement.
• Must be able to lift and handle materials up to 70 lbs.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES
• Maintain Summit mountain bike trails and features with leadership of the Mountain Bike Area Director and Wheels Program Manager
• Organize and lead teams of volunteer conservation crews who are providing community service work for the Summit.
• Provide cheerful, helpful and efficient service to all Summit guests. Maintain a friendly, cheerful and helpful attitude to insure that participants have a safe and enjoyable experience. Where possible solve their needs and concerns, where not possible, steer them to someone who can.
• Carry out the prescribed policies and procedures of the Summit as outlined in the Staff Guidebook and during staff training.
• Present oneself to every participant and guest clean, sharp appearing and correctly uniformed as described in the Staff Guidebook.
• Become familiar with all materials supplied prior to the camping season.
• Become familiar with and follow all pertinent policies and procedures.

DAILY OPERATIONS
• Organize and supervise the Trail Crew to monitor, maintain and repair Summit Trails.
• Present a program that imparts useful trail care and maintenance knowledge that supports the aims and objectives of the BSA and that is safe, fun, interesting and challenging.
• Monitor inventory of spare parts and repair equipment and works with mountain bike manager to order materials needed to keep program running safely.
• Use any and all safety equipment mandated in your work area.
• Insure proper use, security and care of tools and equipment.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by the management team.

Compensation
$1435-$1640+ /month DOE
