Over the last year I had to ditch my old K30 truck..due to excessive rust and limited funds...I was quite sad to be rid of this project because I had big dreams for a nice looking truck. We should all remember this truck:
However, There is good news though1 within the last year I have acquired a whole lot of knowledge and have built a firm base on which this new project will be started.
Specs: 1980 Chevy K30
Dana 60 front diff Corporate 14 bolt full floater Chevy small block 350 Signaw/Muncie sm465 Chevy np205
Here's a few pics from the ad and when I went to see the truck
Bought the truck for 3200. It was a bit much for this truck but for a 1 ton. It was well worth it. Took me almost a full 12 months to find a true K30 truck so I could restart my project again properly.
Here she is sitting in my driveway.
Wasn't even home for a full 24 hours before I started to tear into it.
After I got it all tore apart and sanded, I started with taping it before paint.
Painted my door panels.
Finished up the interior paint.
While waiting for paint to dry I put some new shoes on her. Paid 300 bucks for a set of 285-75-16 Nitto trail grappler MT tires.
Cut out the grille centers.
Got a couple parts and swapped to 73-78 headlight bezels.
Finished door panel.
The 37 ft of wiring I pulled out of my truck.
Getting the interior back together.
More parts for the truck.
New cab lights on the right (left) of the truck.
Added another courtesy light at the drivers side.
Gauges, cigarette light and glove box light.
Tail light bezel painted.
Removed the dump box.
Made some brackets for my cobalt seats.
Installed seats
I'll upload some more pictures and add them to later.
Painted visor. Bought this off a guy on kijiji. Didnt want it any more so i gave him 10 bucks and he shipped it to me from Thunder Bay!
Truck was running shitty....no wonder. I replaced the fuel filter.
Bought a couple fuel tanks, picked the best one. Also got a set of brackets I wire wheeled and painted
New dual tank box.
Box with my tail lights installed and my old tail gate that was in better shape
Just chillin. Most of what I wanted to do is done.
Tarped up and winterized for the rest of the year.
I ended up getting a job out in AB with a framer Near High River. After I got a call to start in the oil patch I switched jobs up until January and then came back home...so the truck sat for a few months.
After a couple months back home of struggling to work and find a decent job..I did manage to get some more progress done on the truck.
After I came back from AB I dug out the truck and started to work on her again. Couple of pics from "The dig"
Did a bit of work to it before heading to BC for a job. Since there were hardly any jobs in Feb I decided to go take a job at a cow ranch. Got these goodies while I was out there though!
After I got back from that job.....I started work as a flat roofer. Worked long hours but I still managed some time for my truck.
New Cab lenses!
Tried some dash pad repair..
Refurbished interior after paint and new seat and painted dash pad.
Chillin
Got a rear bumper. - Story on the bumper is..after I removed the dump box..it turned out that the frame was cut approx 8" short in order for the pivot to be mounted. I was pretty fumed about that. So I ended up making brackets for it. No pics...I'm slightly ashamed. Welder sucks. LOL
Bumper installed and rear window in.
While working the roofing job, I got a call from an oil company I sent in my resume to. They told me if I could come within 3 days, I would have the job...so I made it happen.
Truck sat again for about 2 months.
First box of parts arrives at home.
Second box a couple of weeks later.
First break I get after my 8 weeks, I am able to install all of my parts (except the exhaust and one rear shock because I broke a shock bolt. ...Oh well. Shit happens. I have a spare shock bracket I will swap in)
Visor installed (properly this time)
Hella 700FF and Hella Vision plus lights installed.
Back to work I go..
Yesterday I recieved my new rims in the mail. 16x10"
Other things to update on. At this point in time the truck is complete enough to be legally on the road, so we'll have a few trips coming up and more pictures of that said trip within the next couple days
On the Restoration front we have scheduled...
Cab and front clip swap. Sand blasted and painted frame and diffs. 5 deep dish rims on 315/75/16 gooyear wrangler mtr kevlar tires. 4" custom lift with fox shocks from ORD. Cummins 12 valve built by piers harry (same guy that built south bend clutch mud rail..look it up on youtube) NV5600 with a twin disc south bend clutch. Dodge Np205 t-case Custom driveshafts Custom hugger orange and white two tone paint.
Other odds and ends.
So far I have:
-Parts truck: as seen here
I'm going to be swapping cab and front clip off of this truck straight onto my frame. I'm also taking the 8" of frame off the end of this truck and fixing mine.
-Tires on order- ready to be picked up from my local tire supplier (which I get 10% off at since my work has an account with them. schweeeet) first week when I get back from time off.
-Appointment booked for sandblasting and paint.
-Deposit down on my 12 valve motor.
-Have the rims.
-Order quote from ORD about my lift (waiting on shipping price)
-Other little parts for the swap from one of my parts suppliers.
-Quote for nv6500 and np205 trans and mated t-case.
So far not doing too bad at all. I'm pleased with the progress thus far and look forward to adding more pics very soon!
Looks like a fairly sound base to work on , you planning on wheeling it ? Or just DD it ?
It'll be very mildly wheeled, dd mostly. Hooked up to a sled a few times a year. Towing horses, hauling hay, wood..etc. It will likely see the strip a few times a year as well.
Simplicity of the swap is why im going with it. Already have some parts and what I dont, the rest are on order. Also have contact thats hooking me up with a brand new 0km 500hp/1100tq motor.
