I have an older 2011 Giant XTC 29er with the Marzocchi front forks(15mm). Giant says this front fork is the Overdrive? The reason I'm asking is I'm looking for some newer lighter weight front forks and was wondering if the standard tapered steerer models will work on my bike?

Does anyone know how long of a steerer I need as I see many slightly used forks for sale with cut steerer tubes.

Thanks

Giant Overdrive is the traditional 1-1/2" to 1-1/8" tapered steerer. Overdrive 2 is 1-1/2" to 1-1/4" tapered, so you would have to switch to a different top headset cup if you had Overdrive 2. Since you have an Overdrive steerer you can use any tapered fork.

As far as steerer length, the easiest way to figure it out is to measure it yourself. All you need to do is remove the top cap and stem from your fork. Then you should be able to slide it out of the headtube to measure it. You may or may not need to remove the front brake caliper to do this.
