So I've got back into riding quite a lot recently... running a 2x10 with 27/39 up front.

Im finding that I'm comfortably using my smaller ring, and never EVER switching into my bigger ring.
It's abit on the small side to switch to a 1x setup on a 27t ring I know, but would switching to a 1x10 on a 30t ring and 11/36 cassette be the worst idea in the world? Anyone done anything similar?

I think hand on heart, I know the exact answer... but we all need a little reassurance one in a while hey Smile haha

Cheers

I just did this exact thing. I went with a 32t ring. Dont miss the 2x10 system a bit.

Been using a 32t ring and 11/36 cassette with one up 42t cog on the rear. Works absolutely perfect.

IMHO, if you are more into XC kind of riding a 34 or maybe a 36 up front should be better i guess.

How are you finding it?

Almost perfect....The only thing I sometimes wish I had was the 42 in the rear for when I'm a lazy S.O.B on some of the longer/steeper climbs. I would only go with a 34 or 36t front ring if you're a pedal monster. Cant really go wrong with the 32t front ring, then if you find you still need an easier gear add a 42t rear cog.

I was reluctant, but finally caved. No regrets (10 spd 34 and 11x42 wolf)
I think it's the simplicity

I did it from 2x9 to 1x10 with a 34t narrow wide blackspire up front. Reduced weight, slippage, chain offs, and a better (imo) transference more than makes up for it, though I did replace every part so maybe not a fair side by side.

I am not a pedal monster, but 34 was okay. Then again I am really lazy, and seldom climb. This is not a commuting bike, but the extra bit is nice for firetracks and roads..at least on the way down.
