Mar 23, 2005
SRAM Corporation has announced the availability of the new Rear Maxle standard for bicycle frames. This new rear axle mounting system follows the release of the successful front Maxle system, featured on the 2005 RockShox Pike Fork. “The rear Maxle offers frame manufacturer’s two unique opportunities,” states Sander Rigney, SRAM’s Suspension Product Manager. “Compared to a frame using a standard axle, they can dramatically improve the stiffness without increasing complexity. Or, for frames currently using a thru-axle, they can offer a more user friendly alternative.”
The Maxle system will be available in 12mm diameter, with 135 and 150mm width options. The system is intended to be compatible with all thru-axle rear hubs fitting these dimensions. Frame manufacturer need only follow the Rear Maxle Engineering Specifications provided by SRAM to ensure compatibility.
