more and more bike brands are selling out to the "MADE IN CHINA" phase.
I had several brands that had MADE IN USA stamped on the frame somewhere and it was a strong selling point for a good long time. Santa Cruz was the first to sell out.... ticked me off cause the prices didn't go down like you would expect. worse, they didn't really inform dealers -- it just happened.
Dean was another brand I sold frequently cause it had that MADE IN USA quality. The Ti products they made was spot-on fantastic.. Now Dean calls it: Made by our partners in Asia.
Evil took the same route..
Not sure what became of Mountain Cycle and I cant remember if they were ever MADE IN USE or Canada.. sorta drawn a blank on that brand.
is this MADE IN CHINA a bad thing as far as quality? ehh... I don't think so. There's lots of bikes I sell that are made in China and I have had very few moments where I had to pull the warranty card... this topic runs pretty deep.. there's a shit-ton of products made in china, it's not just bikes.
I for one loved the days of Race Face when they were made in Canada --- that stuff was hard to beat. it's still a pretty good brand but, quality has dropped (if you ask me).
for a while Marzocchi had: "Designed in Italy, Made in Taiwan on their boxes"
Fox bought em so, I don't know what's going to be the end result there. right now, you can't find nuttin' other than a few seal kits at BTI
Then there's Titus ---- I'm not sure what happened there. There's a mention of Pivot Cycles and On-One having something to do with them. I don't think Titus ever went to China for labor but, they sure did piss off some dealers along the way but, if they're tied in with Planet X (On-One) they dipped out and gave labor over to China.
damn, the more I start thinking about all this -- in a way it bugs me but, in a way I can understand why they do it. much of it is our own damn fault too. late/hate relationship for sure

Banshee -- was made in China from the get go?
