Yeah quite the nasty spill! Riding my local XC trail like a normal Saturday afternoon. This trail has some steep open sections(fun fun fun) It was raining lightly and as I was pushing my limits for speed when up came a very small bridge made of rail road sleepers, just the right amount of moss and water and BAM! The bike slipped left and I went right, a solid impact into the wood beam. No head over heals or sliding along. Pure head on impact stopped in my tracks! My left hand, right forearm, and chin must have taken all the impact. Hand=Fractured Forearm=Hematoma Chin=22 stitches and 3 back teeth shattered and one 'fang' removed. Not mention riding solo and was getting dark in the Panamanian jungle. I almost lost consciousness 3 times but managed to fight it off as I attempted the walk out.

The gash looks bad I know, but the real damage was my teeth. The lower back molars were shattered and one eye tooth was split all the way up to the nerves and had to be removed. If I had a full face on I think I probably would have still opened up my chin but the helmet would have taken some of the impact? Anyway, you would never wear a full face on a trail like this, its up and down all the way in a very humid jungle, I was riding in for 1 1/2 hours and you have ride out the same way. XC can get nasty

Even in a full-face, that could still happen. If he landed as I pictured he did, and the jaw-guard of his full-face pushed his head up by grinding across the ground, the sleeper could've hit him through the exposed area at the bottom.
This doesn't usually happen as full-faces will tend to tuck your head down towards your chest, due to their shape. However, it could still have happened in a full-face, though the chances are a lot lower. Razz
