not to burst your bubble or anything. but a land rover defender is more reliable and better of road than a hummer. and has more seats.
trust me, i worked on some of the americans stuff in iraq. they just fall to bits.
uh im not stupid, we own a land rover to along with this h1, and they both suck ass and break all the time and both cost a shit ton for parts. never said it was a reliable or good off road vehicle.
defenders are more reliable then other rovers, they're way to expensive in the first palce. i'd rather just build a samurai or a yota for less then half the price that could be more reliable and out wheel both of them.
HAHAHAHAHA ANd to the guy who said "you can't mount a grenade launcher on one..." well you sir obviously don't pay attention to anything but the MOD do ya??? Probably THE most widely used platform for military and militaristic groups is the good ol Toyota Hillux or the 70-series Landcruisxer or the Merc G-wagen ( LOVE G-wagens, just not the blinged out ones we get in the states typicaly, BUT I wheel with a few guys that have AWESOME G's - had an Toyota HJ75 Ute - AKA the most reliable 4wd on the planet- when I lived in Australia and I'm pretty sure I cried when I handed over the keys to move back.) Up here in the NW I can't TELL you the number of times we've had Hummers flat stuck JUST because of the width alone let alone people who own them not understanding how to get their diffs to work (gotta use a bit of brake to get the LSD's to lock up as they're REALLY tight, but not technicaly a "full locker") and ROvers... well they are really neat trucks, but they flat out don't hold up. I agree that Series trucks are FAR more reliable then Rangies and Disco's but that isn't saying much when you have one of the most failure prone vehicles to compare to... That said, being that broseph lives in the UK and can get Diesel 5-speed manual Rovers means that you DO have THE cream of the crop when it comes to Rovers. We here in the US are screwed cause we get Automatic Gassers and they're far from reliable. IMO when it comes to 4x4's older is better. And just to make those of you in the know Jealous: When I was a Wildland Firefighter years back, I was an engine boss on a Company of UNIMOGS (416's and a few Newer Dokas) ... ow THAT is a do it ALL 4wd.
Ramble over, sorry about that, I'm almost as pasionate about 4wd's as I am bikes. .
Living in the UK , with its 'wheeling scene' I'd definitely use a land rover as a base car , if I was to live over in America I'd definitely runt something yota or international harvester based
