Great comparison in sizes! Im getting a kick out of your conversation with Waki! It seems like he has some ponderings about this 29er market as well. You too have reached a very important topic! Weight to strength ratio. Now Im not personally concerned with weight but strength is my top priority with any product I purchase. I think for my application and style, if a lager wheel was in placement the 650b looks good but in the picture and your previous mails, I can now see the difference is slim to none. Thank you for the Pic this has given me a better rationality to put my perspectives in order.

No problems Niko, glad it helps.
If I was about ripping some serious mountains the 29er rim in around 600g would be most welcome, but my wheels barely touch the downhills and roll on fairly flat, smooth trails + commuting and XC racing, hence my concerns about the weight with a strength still in mind.
The same conclusion then as with the choice of pretty much any bike component - we buy the stuff that matches the purpose and our wallets. Simples Wink

how does the crest 29 hold up? how stiff it is? It is on my potential purchase list, but Im affraid how would it stand up to aggro trail riding

BTW looking at 26 vs 650B... that's more or less how I felt it would look like...

Stan's has marked the Crest as a racing type rim and that's about right. I sold the wheel as it was to weak for my type of punishment, not that it wasn't stiff but too easy to bend and dent. I also did not like the fact they are non-eyelated which is one of the reason the Stan's rims are very light to the competition. I have replaced this 29er wheel with the Mavic's TN719 which is heavier and stronger.

ok, that's exactly what I thought it would be. I'll be looking for reports on ZTR Arch 29. At the moment I will ride WTB Laser Disc 29, I like the 21 inner width, but f*ckers lie about the weight. Instead of 570g claimed it is 615 - nearly 50g is a lot isn't it... I will send them an angry e-mail, we'll see what they make of it. Last time I complained to Answer I got free wide bars.

Don't count on XKing on technical stuff in wet, especially on uphills Wink Rolls fast buuuut... RoRoRoRo iz ze way

615g?! dude, that's heavy ... I'm surprised you did not predict that Wink
The TN719 is about 100g lighter but narrower at 19mm. Jumping from wider 21mm Crest to the Mavic honestly I can not tell the difference.

No more XK in my garage and I have no plans of buying one in 29" size. Still very impressed with RK though but the Schwalbe rubber is the way forward for the future (I already have 29" RaRa, RoRo and NN to choose from for my hardtail)
