Mountain Creek Bike Park is getting the 2015 DH season started early this year with the announcement of the second annual event called The Transition Race, scheduled for Saturday March 28th. With near record snowfall in New Jersey this winter, Mountain Creek is celebrating the end of one amazing season and the beginning of the next with the chance for bikers and skiers and snowboarders to take to the hill together. This limited-entry event will look to crown the fastest all-around athletes on the mountain with a ski, snowboard, and downhill MTB dualthalon.

The race will be comprised two separate single timed runs, one for snow and one for bike with the best combined times determining the overall winners. Competitors will be tested against some of the best downhill ski and bike terrain the resort has to offer. The ski race will take place on the Great Northern and Independence Pass ski trails, while the bike race will take place on the Tempest Bike Trail, Khyber Pass Ski Trail, Gingerbread Bike Trail and finish with a dramatic on-snow run down the Sugar Slope Ski Trail.

Participants can enter as individuals or as a team, with one skier/boarder and one biker. Entry fees are $40 for an individual or $60 for a team and all entries include a complimentary post-race beverage at the Schuss bar after party. The categories will be expert men, novice men, women, and men, women and co-ed teams. All classes are open to skis or snowboards – racer’s choice. Pre-registration is highly recommended as the event is limited to the first 100 riders at this time. Prizes will be given to the top 3 finishers in each category.

Your facebook says the bike race will be on snow only this year. Which is it?

I think its going to be on all snow this year. This looks like a copy/paste of last years course. Which is good because the mud last year was crazy and I would expect it would be just as muddy this year.

Is it going to be groomed with little slush or is there going to be tons of slush like last year?

Our plan is to groom it the night before so it sets up firm for race day. Race day conditions will be dictated by the weather and good old mother nature though.

Its supposed to be cold Saturday so it'll probably stay pretty firm. Last years race was on a pretty warm rainy day.
