Anthony Messere Wins Crankworx Les 2 Alpes

Putting down a fabulous run at Crankworx Les 2 Alpes, Anthony Messere bags the win at the first FMB Diamond Series event this season. On a course where most favorites struggled, the 18-year-old Canadian pulled off a victorious run and now leads the FMB Diamond Series ranking. The slopestyle rocket is back! In 2011, when he was just 15 years old, he took everyone by surprise finishing 3rd at Red Bull Joyride during Crankworx Whistler. Since then, Messere has had a consistent performance but a series of unfortunate mishaps kept him away from the big victories. Grabbing victory at Crankworx Les 2 Alpes Slopestyle, the hard times are finally over for Messere.


This weekend Anthony eliminated any doubts and proved that he is a real contender on the FMB Diamond Series. The challenging course in the French Alps took out some of the contest favorites like Semenuk and Rheeder. Local Hero Antoine Bizet also didn’t manage to pull off a satisfactory run, by his standards. After run 1 it seemed that luck was still not on Anthony’s side as he cased the step up and lost speed for the road gap, which ended a solid run. Maintaining a strong mental game he went back up top and dropped in for the winning run.


A unique barspin link-back off the open loop and a massive frontflip tuck no-hand on the final jump left the judges no choice but to award the highest score and the win. His performance was enough to break Thomas Genon’s 2014 dominance and with Sam Reynolds opting to not ride a second run, Anthony was clear to take the top spot.


His result at Crankworx Les 2 Alpes has boosted him into 4th place on the FMB World Ranking and places him at the top of the FMB Diamond Series. Anthony Messere is confident heading to the next Diamond event – Red Bull Joyride at Crankworx Whistler.

How does it feel to win Crankworx?
Just to be on top of a FMB Diamond Series event is an amazing feeling and one I did not expect. My goal was to nail a solid run that I felt happy with and the fact that it also put me on top of the podium is awesome.

You rode a new Morpheus prototype – did that give you extra confidence?
It was the first time I have ridden the new Morpheus Prototype Slope bike in a competition, I usually ride hardtails. Having that rear shock really gave me some added confidence. So yeah, I am stoked.

So what are your plans now before Red Bull Joyride?
I’m going home now to keep riding my bike, enjoy myself and keep up this good state of mind. I’m not going to work on new tricks but get my consistency dialed so I can stay healthy and in top form for Crankworx Whistler.

Does Winning Crankworx Les 2 Alpes add pressure for Crankworx Whistler?
Winning Crankworx Les 2 Alpes certainly adds more pressure for Red Bull Joyride but the win will help me with confidence. I know now that I can win it and that is what I will be shooting for. I have already had a good experience there in 2011 but now it’s time to step it up again. I can’t wait!
