Every year the Copper Ridge Riders Association puts together a "Bootleg" downhill race the Sunday after The Iceman Cometh. This race is very laid back and is always just about a group of guys and gals who love downhill/freeride mountain biking and just want to have fun. The race works like this: Show up at the Copper Ridge Freeride Trailhead, bring a bike part for the prize pot and we will radio down the race trail we choose and time with a stopwatch. The winner picks from the bike parts first and last place picks last. Everyone ends up with something.
We had a decent turn out especially for how bad the weather was. (Snowing at 32°)
Bottom part of the race trail looks nice and slippery...
Levi (a Traverse City local) ripping through one of the many berms at Copper Ridge.
Local, Brett Miller throwing down on the tables.
Keagan Thomas, a local, catching some nice air on the snow-covered table tops.
The slick snowy slush does't stop these guys from hitting any of the stunts (Big or small) here at Copper Ridge.
Can't forget about how fast "Chainsaw" Dave McCaw and Adam are.
The times probably would have been much faster if the early Northern Michigan snow hadn't surprised us...
1 Adam R. 1:11.40
2 Dave M. 1:11.74
3 Levi K. 1:13.31
4 Rivers W. 1:13.55
5 Brett M. 1:15.71
6 Matt K. 1:17.01
7 Brian Z. 1:19.69
8 Jason Y. 1:23.44
9 Nathan T. 1:31.90
10 Jeremy B. 1:33.38
11 Matt C. 1:37.43
12 Keagan 1:37.60
13 Will 1:56.93
14 Courtney 3:04.98
This year's Bootleg race finished off a great bike season here in the Northern mitten and that means were about to get another big winter so get out the fat bike or strap on the skis or snowboard and see you next year!

but could you put spikes in the tires for better traction??
and does michigan have a downhill or enduro series???
Crystal Mountain does a DH series and Boyne Highlands usually has a DH race (they didn't this year though).
Marquette has both enduro and DH at their Bike Jam (usually in June I believe)
Copper Harbor has enduro on both Memorial and Labor Day weekends with a DH race on one of those two weekends
