The final race of the Phat Wednesday Series presented by Kokanee wrapped up in the usual style with the 3rd Annual F#$% Cancer Chainless Aline. 240 racers hit the famous Aline without a chain to chase the title of the smoothest rider of the day. The real racers though were wrapped up in the true spirit of the race, by wearing costumes and riding bikes that certainly wouldn't been found on any other race course and for the most part inhibited any ability to ride fast.
Astronaut attempt or just tin foil man?
Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Remy Metailler's doppelganger dropping in.
Nick Geddes defended his title and was once again crowned the king of Chainless A-Line for the second year running with a time of 4:30.40 and all while sporting some lovely spandex and a speed helmet more commonly seen on an Ironman competitor. Nick said he's "pretty surprised to have won the race for the second year in a row, Chris is always a tough guy to beat. Regardless I am super happy to have won!" Chris Kovarik and Remy Metailler rounded out the top 3 in the men’s category which was enough to secure Metailler the overall title for the series.
A-Line trains were a popular theme as was cross-dressing.
In the women’s field Claire Buchar continued her domination taking first place and the overall series title. Leonie Picton took second place with Katrina Strand rounding out the podium. In the Masters Men the podium was switched up once again with Mathieu Hebert taking the top spot with a time of 4:39.09. However it was the battle for second and third that had the overall series title at the tipping point. In the end Steve Storey secured second spot and the overall Master Male series title just a mere 3 points clear of Shane Gayton who came in second in the series.
More cross dressing and nakedness and yet another train. Does drafting count as cheating in mountain biking?
In the juniors Finn Iles continued his great form taking the win and the overall series. Cooper Bathgate and Brad Jansen came in second and third respectively. While Bailey Goldstone also known as Bad-A Alice for the night took out the number one spot.
For the last 3 years, we have incorporated a fundraising component to the race with all proceeds going to BC Children’s Hospital, specifically to the teen cancer ward. The fundraising aspect of the race first began when local racer Nick Geddes was diagnosed with Leukemia. Nick was a staple in the Whistler racing community and a regular on the Phat Wednesday podium at the time he was diagnosed.
"When Seb initially approached me I was in hospital and unable to race the phat Wednesday series back in 2011." Geddes said. "He approached me with the idea of transforming the already famous chainless A-Line into a fundraiser for the BC Children's Hospital. The aptly named F**k Cancer Chainless Aline was born! It's so cool that the community can rally behind something that has a huge importance like childhood cancers. I hope this race continues to raise awareness and inspire people to make a difference for people who are effected by cancer." This year through raffle tickets and a live auction for a 2015 Bike Park Season pass, we were able to raise almost $2000 for this great cause.
The wheel size debate continues...

Not just for the riding but the overall vibe as well!
He even nailed the power slide down the tranny. Just not quite as graceful though.....
