The Specialized Stumpjumper is unanimously considered the best XC hardtail you can buy. Why do I mention this? Because the geometry of that $1000 bike is nearly copied in this one, available to you for half that price. Of course, the Stumpjumper has some more upscale parts but this Rockhopper is also loaded with SRAM goodies, from the Avid Juicy BB7's stopping both front and rear to the RockShox Dart 3 cushioning your ride over root and rock. Both of the aforementioned components and everything in between are in very good mechanical condition. The Avid brakes, rotors and levers, SRAM X-5 derailleur and shifters, SRAM 8-speed cassette, SR Suntour PFF crank and chainring, Cane Creek headset, Specialized saddle, stem, bar and hubs, Alex Rims, and entire cockpit including custom Specialized lock-on grips (which look pretty sick) have all been cleaned, tuned, tightened and adjusted at the beginning of September just right so that it feels like you're riding a brand new bike. This Rockhopper ascends like only a hardtail can; fast and easily. The wide variety of gear ratios make even steep, loose gravel manageable. It's none too shabby for a 100mm hardtail on the way down either! Quick release seat clamp and wheels make it possible to transport this bike even in the smallest of cars (1987 Honda Civic... it's been done.) What more could you want?!

The one problem with this not being a brand new bike is that there is a bit of wear and tear that comes naturally with riding a bike. The worst of the scratches are on the chainstay and the stem, but none of it is anything worth worrying about as it doesn't compromise the frame's integrity. The tires are worn down some, but still have at least 70% tread on the front, at least 50% tread on the back and grip dirty singletrack like nobody's business.

I bought this bike brand new from Sportsman and Ski Haus in Kalispell, MT in September 2010, which makes it no more than exactly 3 years old. It has been lightly XC ridden (only 2-4 real rides per year, sadly) and used as a secondary means of transport around town. It's been professionally tuned at Bert and Mac's in Lethbridge and the more recent tunings I have done myself. All in all, I love this bike. I am selling it solely for the reason that I found a new love: downhill. This requires a more gravity-oriented bike so sadly this steed will have to go to someone who can love it for what it is: a mean, partially green XC machine.

The price is somewhat negotiable so shoot me an offer but don't waste my time. I won't ship but I will consider meeting you halfway if that's necessary. (i.e. The Pass, Cardston, Lethbridge, Claresholm) All pictures are current.
