Did a trade with a bloke here off Pinkbike for my Giant Glory 01 just before Christmas last year. This Muppet recond that his frame was in mint condition unfortunately after building up the frame and removing some fluffy crap off the frame that he had put on I noticed hair line cracks either side of the rear triangle where the link is between the shock and rear triangle.
Contacting the Muppet I had no joy, never heard so many excuses.
So I had the frame send to Lapierre France to check it out. Well it was good news. The frames geometry is still perfect and the 2 hair line cracks would in no way get worse or hinder performance as the place they’re in are not on the pushing position of the link but in the upper position which does no work, this did baffle them and the only answer could be over tightening the link bolt but if I wanted they could replace the rear triangle for the £350 which unfortunately for me was a no no.
So they suggested I could have it cold welded because of the carbon, no good for ali welding, too hot. This was done in France by one of Lapierres suggested engineering companies.
This cost me £165 including 4 new bearings. I must say on return of my frame they have done an excellent job. They have rated this weld at 3000psi which is around 1.5 ton per square inch.
Any way enough of the sob story. I have the frame up for sale now because of the wait I already bought a new one. I’m looking for around £550 as is but open to offers.
Will come with bottom bracket, seat post, lower mud guard and headset.
P.S. The cracks are/where not in the carbon but in the aluminium parts. Look closely at the first 4 pics you will see a small line in the upper bearings at the top.
