This 14" wheeled bike is the perfect size for kids graduating from a Strider bike. This bike has a free-wheel and front and rear brakes.
Spawn Cycles Gremlin (Spawn Cycles - The World's Best Kids' Bikes!). It was everything that I wanted spec wise
(aluminum frame, free-wheel, front and rear v-brakes and lightweight), but did cost just under $400 with taxes.

Kids hands can actually reach and effectively use the hand brakes, pedal a gear that is not heavy, and have a bike that doesn't
weigh like a tank (remember these are lighter people who need light bikes).

Even though kids can progress with a lesser bike, it is limiting their true potential.

Brakes available for kids bikes are u-brakes, sidepull brakes, or coaster brakes. All are just weak and awful to use, provided the kids can
even reach the lever with their smaller hands.

Some kid's bikes can weigh around 20 pounds, have too big of gearing for them and have an inefficient drivetrain.
If a kid weighs 40 pounds, this is like a 150 pound adult riding a 75 pound bike.

Now with the Gremlin, it weighs less than your average kids bike at 15 pounds, has a lower gearing, kids can crank up hills
that others will need to walk up.

The bike has good parts on it, and I don't see anything that would be
considered too lightweight and after many crashes, it has shown to be strong and durable.
The brakes are plenty strong, and I don't see any reason why kids should be ever using coaster brakes.

I've read that some people do a bunch of mods to make other kid's bikes nicer, and spending more than this bike costs.
The Spawn bike isn't done by a huge company like most kids bikes are, but a small company in Canada. Designed and built by a
parents who are sick of their children riding crappy bikes, much like the rest of us.

I encourage any potential buyers to do searches for other used Spawn bikes and other comparable kid's bike with front/rear brake and
freehweel, with a light gear a kid can pedal easily with. There's not much out there of the same calibre.
