Pick up the XTR M9000 Pre-Bled Front Race Disc brake from Shimano if you are after the best mountain bike brake on the market. The best materials, and the flossiest engineering know-how equate to something less tangible: braking nirvana. Shimano scoured the periodic table for the best materials for crafting their XTR line. One quick look at the Wikipedia page for magnesium, the material from which the lever-housing and caliper is made, tells you that it is the lightest material possible for this application. This means predictable stopping power under the most extreme duress, time and again.
The lever is made of carbon fiber, which is the lightest, stiffest material available for a component of your brake where preventing deformation is imperative. Fiber glass is used in the an insulated pad surrounding the piston to aid in dealing with the extreme heat generated by brakes on white knuckle descents.
