Here is its story:
I’m selling the bike that turned me into a mountain biker. This full suspension 29er is just tons of fun to ride. Transition seems to design their bikes with fronts that crave to be pointed downhill and rears that climb efficiently, and this bike is fast, stable, fun, and can ride over anything. As a product of the mid 2010s, it caught a sweet spot between the upright and twitchy bikes of the 2000s and the super low and slack bikes that are in fashion right now. The result is a bike that is soooooo fun to ride downhill and, due to its slightly higher geometry, can ride over almost anything. The bottom bracket is about 300 mm higher than is typical now. If you ride mostly manicured trails with berms, the lower and slacker bikes are great; but for trails with roots and rocks the higher bottom bracket pays off: Pedal strikes are almost not a thing on this Covert, and you can ride over logs, roots, and rocks with joyous disregard.

I bought this bike 21 months ago from a 270lb downhill enthusiast who rode it pretty hard. Fortunately, he only had a season and a half on this particular frame, as he broke the rear triangle on his original bike and got this frame under Transition’s crash replacement program. (I have is original frame with the broken triangle and you’re welcome to it.) Since I bought the bike, I’ve replaced or repaired every part that was worn: it has a new drive train, new brakes and new brake levers, new tires (tubeless!), new dropper post and lever, and new seat, plus regular maintenance on the shock and fork. The bike has some scratches and scrapes and the cranks are a bit worn (see photos), but this bike is totally ready to be ridden.

Why am I selling this bike if it’s so awesome? Two reasons: The first is that it is just a tad too big for me. I’m a hair over 5’9”, and I wouldn’t be selling it if I were 5’11”. It’s a thrill to ride but someone a bit taller than me will enjoy it more and be able to maneuver it underneath them more comfortably. The second reason is that I decided I wanted a smaller bike that was better suited to the trails I ride most regularly. My new bike is also a mid-2010s Transition — these bikes are just so fun! — but it’s a 27.5” hardtail. Though the smaller hardtail is a better fit for me, I will miss the Covert’s poise, stability, speed, and fun going downhill and — especially — its ability to ride over anything.

I’m including my last rebuild kit for the Fox Float. These were hard to come by for a while, so I stocked up. The photos are pretty self explanatory. The picture of the broken bike is the old, broken frame that is included but not required as part of the sale.
