I have a custom 1997 Ibis Alibi I built as an employee at Ibis Cycles when they were still building steel and titanium frames in Sebastopol, California. The Alibi is a 7005 series "Moron" double butted aluminum frame, handmade by Kinesis in Portland, OR. I hand-picked this frame before base coating for the highest quality welds and finish in the lot. It's a Medium (seat tube measures 17" center-to-center), custom painted in "Warm Beer Metallic" (aka Silver). Details listed below:

Ibis Ancotech Titanium handlebar
Ibis Aluminum stem - made by Kinesis, painted to match the frame
Ibis Bar Ends - made by Kinesis
Chris King 1 1/8" Threadless headset
Manitou Mach 5 FS Ti 76mm travel fork w/ titanium springs - painted to match the frame
Full M950 XTR 8-speed drivetrain, including:
XTR Shifter/Brake combo levers
XTR V-Brakes F/R
XTR Triple Crankset, 5-bolt 110mm BCD (Rare)
XTR Octalink V1 BB
XTR 8-Speed Rear Derailleur
XTR Bottom Pull Front Derailleur
XTR 11-32 Cassette
1st Gen Mavic CrossMax 26" wheelset w/ Salsa Ti QR Skewers
Syncros Seatpost (28.6mm OD)
WTB Silverado Ti Saddle
Geax Hook & Warp folding kevlar tires
Shimano PD-M747 SPD pedals

I recently gave the drivetrain the white glove treatment including new derailleur cables & housings. I've replaced the brake cables & housings and repacked the bottom bracket. I also have a spare derailleur hanger for the frame and the original Mavic tire lever/cone wrench combo. I'm a lightweight rider (135 lbs. soaking wet when I was riding this bike) and a former professional bike mechanic & XC racer with a very smooth riding style. No "point and shoot" downhill bombs here.

The bike definitely shows cosmetic wear - namely the paint - inflicted at the hands of the poorly designed car racks that were available at the time. The fork damper needs a rebuild and one of the preload adjusters pops off (I still have it), but the components are solid, wheels are true & round, and bearings are smooth. The original tires are functional but showing cracks - I would replace them before taking it out on a trail. Otherwise, the bike shifts, stops and rides flawlessly.

This bike carries with it the legacy of so many people, places, and stories from one of the most memorable times of my life. It's taken me 20 years to even consider letting it go, but I think it might be time to move on. My oldest daughter whom I've introduced to road cycling is now showing interest in riding off road with me too. I put the work into this bike thinking it might work out for her but I've realized just how much safer and more capable modern MTBs are by comparison - and that route just makes more sense for a new rider.

I am in Hillsboro, Oregon so if you're local we can meet somewhere nearby if you'd like to take a closer look at it.

Thanks for reading!
