Truly one of the holy grails of the early 1990's mountain bike scene, the Trail Stem was Ringle's first product! These were made roughly 1989 to 1992 and are exceedingly difficult to find (especially in this riser version). It's in the same vein of the Kooka Billet stem and the Answer Manitou stem, all being cut from billet aluminum blocks and remaining block shaped and drilled out! Part of Geoff Ringle's design philosophy on this was to prevent stem impact injuries that happened on older stems with pointy and protruding top sections. The top of the stem is flat and wide, with gently rounded front and rear ends. The quill piece is a double wedge expander plug. This allowed removing the stem/bars to access the headset without disturbing the front brake's setup as well as using the same stem for both 1" and 1 1/8" by just swapping out this piece. This Ringle has an integrated cable roller / canti stop, though not all Ringle Trail stems had this! The roller is housed inside the extension for a sleek look. Ringle replaced this with the more standard design Zooka in 1993.

Condition

Near mint lightly used shape! This looks very clean overall, with the only real marks to note are a barely bigger than pinpoint ano wear spot on faceplate & light ano scratches at the left/rear facing section of the stem by the bolt, just as the top rolls into the back. Some very tiny ano wear elsewhere, not worth mentioning. Show worthy for most bikes! Very clean.
