my dad found an old road bike at his place of work, and now i am fixing it up, initially i wanted to identify the make/model and if possible year too, however after hours of searching the closest i've come is raleigh...i've only found 1 model thats the super grand prix 1979 that has the same frame, and even that has a different front emblem/logo. any help identifying this bike would be much appreciated.
well there we go guys, i've posted the 2 distinct features on my old road bike, so hopefully someone may be able to identify it for me. thanks in advance.
hiya mate, its deffo a raleigh but doubtfull anyone would be able to tell you what model it is just from those pics. if you have the frame id no. im almost sure you can find out what year and model it is
here's a link for the raleigh bicycles fan forum, maybe someone there could better help you
this includes the frame itself, rear wheel that came with it, and also a little code i found on the rear dropout, i googled the code but only thing it yielded was adresses, hope this helps and thanks for trying to identify it for me
it looks like whoever previously owned the bike stamped that on there themselves, its not uncommon for older bikes and should be used widely now as bicycle theft is spiraling ever upwards... anywyas back on topic,
does it have an i.d. no. on the underside of the bottom bracket tubing??? if you have that it would be a lot easier to find out more about the bike
but you see the emblem is different to most raleighs, can you think of any models that would use that emblem instead of the traditional 1. because after ages searching i couldn't find 1 bike that used this emblem.
cheers pal, i also came across this site, and 1 similar, the amount of text is quite substantial and confusing, i might get around to seeing if can use that site for identifying the serial number.
so i guess linking back to the earlier post about it being a similar model to the supergrand prix of 1979, that could be it, but its just the logo that needs explaining, do you know of any raleigh models that used that certain logo, whether it was because it was made for a certain event, made in a certain part of the world, or made in a certain year.
rare or not, its good to finally be making some progress on this thing as far as identifying goes, now i just need a reason as to why that specific emblem was used as opposed to the traditional 1, and what model it is. you're being a great help jaytom, thank you.
They used that style head badge on bikes from the early 60's to the early 70's. It's almost impossible to know what model it is without some of the original paint or components as all of their frames were very similar.
