I think the biggest reason someone wouldn't wear their armour (I'm assuimg upperbody) is because of mobility, and the restriction some armour entales. Or, it could be as simple as the heat the armour provides the rider with. In either case, wearing armour is the best way to minimize small - medium injuries.
I've biffed it into enough rocks to realize that I kinda value my health and well-being, therefore I always roll with the armour when I'm doing serious riding. General street riding I usually just have shins, a bucket and gloves. Only time I wear nothing is on the occasional quick beer run.
Oh, I almost forgot... I took a crash in Quebec this year, that if I wasn't wearing armour, I would have probably broken my back - no jokes, ask QUINNER, he's seen the video! I might even have some photos to dig up...
i dont wear upperbody because i can afford it. i ride dj and dh with my arms and legs. i never ever ride without my legs its a superstition. i always wear my full face because i hate smashing my chin on things

All the mud is covering TONS of jagged rocks, which actually chipped my hip bone really bad... Also, speed is not shown at all... The camera is taking 5 fps, which should give you an indication of speed. Thanks for the pics TY
