Are road mech's Like the Dura ace and Capagnolo better on a Downhill bike
Than your standard mountain bike mech.

Also would the short cage mech's be better.

If i did buy a road mech would i need a road Cassette and road chain?

Short cage is better for DH, at this stage in the game Shimano's Shadow technology can't be beat, and a saint derailler is cheaper than a Dura Ace...so i'd say don't bother with roadie stuff.

Campagnolo uses different chain pitch and freehub/cassette interface than shimano/SRAM, so stay away from campy...2 cents

Im running just a cheapo shimano sora set up on my DH rig, super short cage, shorter than saint mech, cost me like £32 for everything, shifts perfectly, doesnt make too much noise and doesnt look too bad either tup

This apart from running a road block will save weight and you don't need the bigger cogs.

Best to note that I now have a new Sram cassette and chain. Now with a new wire and the new Sram components its running smooth.

I run the road mech becuase its smaller then some DH ones and cheaper to buy when they snap.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Well weight is not an issue for me as my bike weighs about 57lb anyway and i'm 19 stone.

I have a XT short cage on it at the momment.

Thanks again for all the info

Also does the shadow stuff shift normal instead of reverse?
as i hate the reverse shift stuff

Shadow shifts normal,it's called shadow as it has a lower profile than a normal mech.

SplendidBig Grin

Do these saint mechs fit normal hangers or are they bolt through like the old version?

If you run a road block you need to take out the mode converter but it's only 2 bolts so easy.

Thanks for the info , would i be better using a road block ?
If so what one would you go for?
Also would it be wise to get the saint shifter too?

Saint shifter with saint mech is damn solid shifting,if your just purely dh riding/racing then yeah it's the way to go,and ultegra is damn cheap and reasonably light.

ultegra

Money no object but oh so Drool
