H,i i,m moving on from a hard tail and i have my eye on a Santa Cruz Super 8 2002 Its in beautiful condition it's going for £475 about $750, I haven't been riding long but found hitting jumps comes quite naturally so want a good but cheep DH bike. I would really like some advice! thank you for reading.

I would say it's a risky investment , they were prone to cracking when they were new let alone 10 years old.

For nearly 500 quid you should be able to find some thing newer and more reliable.

Loads of giant faiths/glorys for around 500 quid mark

If this is as good as it seems then its a real bargain https://www.pinkbike.com/buysell/1222618/

That sounds overpriced to me.
You should be able to get something a lot newer and lighter than a super 8 for £500

hi thanks for then advice, i do know the only thing original part of the bike is the frame. I've had a good look and there are no signs of cracking and its been well looked after the guy has had it from new. its in beautiful condition!! this is why i'm in two minds. My friend has a big hit 2 and a stinky both are just as heavy if not heaver. my thinking is if its lasted this long then its should see me good for a few years until i'm good enough to buy a bike i'm not going to wrap round trees etc

Getting better does not mean you wont wrap your bike around trees really as your skill / confidence goes up so does the speed you do and does the severity of the impacts.

I would seriously recommend that you check through the buy/sell section and make another choice , you will get some thing newer , better handling and more likely then a 10 year old frame to hold up to being crashed.

For 500 quid you can get quite a few bikes in the buy/sell section that are at least 5 years younger.

Your choice but I would not go for the super 8 , a freind of mine who is a good rider and not a hack at all went through 3 of those things in 2 years due to cracks around the welds.

So after asking for advice and getting some very good feedback of you guy" thank you by the way" I decided not to listen to any of you and went ahead a got me a super 8 as i must admit i fell in love with it the first time i laid eyes on it . I did get the price down to £350 and its a lot of bike for that i think! it takes any thing i throw at it and it feels like its floating over the rough stuff and it fly's over the jumps. I will post some pics up so you can have a butchers. once again thanks for your input!!

I don't know how to solve your problem, but it great to see another Super 8 up and running. I give my wife my old MK1 Super 8 earlier this year, and now I'm mid build of a MK2 Super 8.
