Ok all so Friday I had my first bad crash on my ghost. Had a few hours out on the trails doing some good old all mountain/ Xc and decided go go on the downhill tracks for a blast. Done the track 5/6 times before. Anyway Lady Luck was against me today and I ended up nose diving pretty bad to the extent that I went over the handlebars and got knocked out.after some help from all at the centre and a trip to the hospital I was home. Any way I was we'll enough the evening after to check out my bike and gear. The bike survived fairly well bent my handlebars and stem.
The worst thing I have found is that my helmet (giro hex) has snapped where my head hit the floor.
Long story short I'm after a recommendation for a new helmet. I've looked at a 661 recon or fox striker and flux helmets.
I just seen the troy lee a1 helmet but am unsure when its out. Does anyone know, or can anyone recommend any others
Many thanks
Gav

Glad to hear that you are ok, and it sounds like your helmet did its job.

Helmets are always a personal thing, as a good fit is very important, so i would suggest going to some shops and trying as many on as you can. I normally buy a new lid every year or so for all mtn riding and have owned loads. The newest i bought is the Urge Endur'O'Matic and i really like it.
Its light and feels like it surrounds the head much better then most others. It also does not have a ratchet retention system like most others, you get a snug fit by using the various thickness pads suppied to fit it to your own head, to me this system makes the helmet feel more stable on the head.

I have not yet ridden with it on in temps above 7 degrees, as i have only had it since December. But i so far i would say it channels air well.

I use my 661 recon most of the time and 661 comp full face for trail centre and faster down hill stuff.
The recon is a great helmet and has good venting. My full face means I run a bit hotter but prefer that to a mashed head.

I was reading on the urge sounds like the best lid. The way the front wholes are set up to make a vantury effect which is awesome for 2 reasons 1 it's a cool name! 2 a lot of things in like are like that. Rivers that get nerow and carburetor a am so one. And the pads can be removed and they absorbe the sweat!
