good points less maintenance and cheaper but also much more convenient , depends on what you do...i have the dmr ss kit ice got a 1/2 link chain so i can remove the tensioner which i really hate....makes my other 9spd chain skip...

Bad..hmmm. Well with single speed you cant change your gears so it may get tricky when riding on trails or going up big hills. But thats probably just it.

i want single speed but my mam is convinced i will want my gears back (im 14). she wont drive me down to the nearest bike shop until she knows i wont want my gears back. Anyone have any suggestions to sway the argue towards me? Smile

i was a bit sketchy when i first got single speed,
but im so glad i got it,
good points-
Totally silent
more reliable
less maintenace
more bombproof
Amasing for dirt jumps
smoother

Bad Points-
Not too good uphill (but who wants to go uphill anyway)
Not too good on fast downhill
Cannot change gear (obvious)
hard to decide on perfect rear tooth ( i would recommend 14-1Cool

it depends on what you ride, if you ride Dirt jumps/ street, then its a definate yes!!!

but if u ride downhill or cross country no no no!

soo much better i find i ride faster as u dont have to think about what gear to ride with and just go for it. and up hills not too bad ether to be honest

i told her i wont have much trouble going long distances and hills wont be too difficult anyway - she still wont have it!
