Hi I have a GT-Dhi Pro and want to lighten it a bit.

Basic specs

2008 gt dhi frame
Boxxer race/WC forks
E.13 srs with carbon bash
Carbon seatpost, shit seat
mavic 823 on dt swiss fr hubs
minion 2.5 rubber
gravity light cranks, 36t chain ring
Saint brakes 8" front, 6" rear

blah blah blah

So what ways are there to lighten it up a bit

Im thinking wheels? What is a good wheelset that will save a bit of weight but not crumple first DH run?

Picture is before some upgrades

721(or 823 if you want tubless) on Pro II's
Get a good seat (WTB Thinline Silverado?)
MG1's
Is your fork the race or the WC? Can't see your left leg to tell...
Ti spring
2.35 tires
Dont know your bar stem (but maybe Sunline direct/v1, or sunline and Monkey lite dh?)

What is the rest of your spec?

fork is air sprung wc but race everything else. Chain guide has a mrp carbon bash guard so would a lg1 save that much weight?

Ti spring, yup thats a good idea

Tubeless isnt really my thing, what wheels are light but strong enough for a light guy racing DH?

Funn direct mount stem + gravity 710mm bar o/s

I like my 2.5s at this stage.

tires - intense ex dc dh lite - kevlar version 2,3 they or about 880 g so they are lighter than maxxis,
for a race run I would get a xc ultra light seat,
fox air - forgot the name but some air suspension for the rear
wheels mavic rims - 721

sorry for my english

What about lighter cassete? I like Sram products, road PG970 is a good choice.
Wellgo MG-1 are realy light (380g). LG-1 chainguide will help to reduce more weight.

As for tires have a look on 2.35 Nevegals, they look like 2.5 Maxxis.

To tell the truth I am also looking for the way of lightening my Norco Team DH, and probably will run 2.35s.

By the way http://sicklines.com is a good resource about component's weight, there is much useful information there.

How much does that weigh now?

Other than swapping to tubeless rubber and a direct mount stem and carbon bar theres nothing to really do to lighten it up that much. I'd seriously think twice about switching to tubeless, I mean you already have 823s, and you can shed probably a pound maybe even two without tubes and rotational weight is what you notice the most.

Have you look at the Sunline Rock Shox Boxxer Direct Mount Stem?

Those are really light (147g) and cheap.

your bike is built with some pretty light ocmponents as is. You could get a new seat and ti spring. But most importantly like you said wheels. For a light guy stans flow rims would probably be ok and they are under 500g a rim. keep your hubs and save some money. A road cassette and derailleur would also help keep your unsprung weight down.

you can cut down your seatpost and bars if you like...

look into carbon CNT seatpost and handlebars, direct mounts, tubless tyres.

instead of a ti spring you can even do an air shock, the new gravity light bars, E13 lightguide and cut your bash guard in half, tubless for sure, wellgo pedals, chris king headset, and if you really want to get technical you can replace all the bolts on your bike with ti bolts
