What is your budget? The Yeti 4x frame retails for almost $2000 and you don't see too many amateurs or novices riding bikes like that when they first start. If you are on a tight budget, look at getting a hardtail as opposed to a fully. This will be a lot cheaper and most likely, lighter. If you do want a fully, anything that is low travel should be pretty well suited for 4x. It may not have the ideal geometry for 4x racing but it will get you started in the sport.

Giant Trance 4x frames don't exist. Here is another "Trance 4x" build that my buddy Mitch did. It is way nicer than the one in my album/posted above!

Charge Blender, Santa Cruz Charmeleon, Cove Foreplay, Cove Stiffy.

A new frame will make the most difference to your racing, all of these frames above are a fair bit lighter than the P1's so should ride a bit better. Theres no point getting a fully when you get into racing, it will actually so you down and encourage your riding style to become unflowy (you wont worry about casing lips so much ect.)
Yourl be best off geting a nice expensive hardtail frame then build your bike up aroung that, as and when you get the money, rather than getting a whole new bike ofr a fully ect

I ride for a shop and their giving me a great deal on a new yeti dj frame. Should I get at $250 or wait for a better deal? Give me your opinion.

yeah, i'd go for the yeti frame. Your getting it at a really good price and it should be perfect for 4x

In my opinion, there is no single best 4X bike. 4X tracks are so different from one to another, so that one bike may be perfectly suited for one style of course, but it may be awful for another track. A hardtail would be great for a track like at Sea Otter, which is flat and pedally, but would be very out of it's league on a track like the one in Champery or Vigo. With the emergence of more DH inspired courses (like Vigo), with rock gardens and very large gaps, hardtails are falling out of favor. Instead 4 inch travel 4X specific rigs are becoming more and more prolific on many of the race circuits. So the type of track you'll be racing on will be one of the deciding factors as to what style of MTX bikes you chose to purchase.

As for recommendations, some of my personal favorites are the Santa Cruz Blur 4X, Intense Tazer, Specialized SX (not trail), Norco XXXX and of course the Yeti 4X. But these are, as I mentioned, specific to a gnarlier style of course. Flat BMX inspired tracks almost alway warrant a hardtail.

Cheers
