I understand that the Foes 2:1 suspension system uses less air pressure, therefore making the bike move through its travel much smoother, and that it uses a lighter spring, but can it be used with something other than a Curnut shock, and I wanna know what else makes it better or worse?
If you could find a shock as long as a Curnutt, with the same stroke you could use a different shock, BUT, you cant.
2:1 in theory has higher shaft speeds, and as such is more precisely tunable, but look at a v-10. Its what, a 2.75 stroke shock for 10 inches of travel? Thats more than 3:1. (Ok, thru different parts of travel the ratio changes, but you get the idea) People ride those faster than anything with no damping issues.
It is a good idea, but proprietary expensive technology means expensive repairs down the road, and possibly lacking repair parts.
The Curnutt rear shock comes with their frames. Why would you spend additional money on a "less superior" rear shock that isn't properly tuned or valved for a 2:1 bike? It just seems silly.
Only con I can think of is since the shock shaft moves so much more the seals on the shock get used more. Also, the huge ass 5" stroke coil... spring must be a boat anchor.
