im thinking for sure that the F5 is my next DH rig. I got some questions though.

The aluminum bracing, connecting the bottom and top tubes and running up to the head tube...is there a weld in there? i can't see it so it isn't just two tubes (bottom and top) connected to the top tube with bracing, is there actually welding connecting them before they reach the top tube? can someone take a picuture of what is in the aluminum bracing that i can't see?

photo
the thing on the far left. covering the top and bottom tubes. is there welding in it before it hits the top tube?
it just kind of looks weak.

And how strong are these puppies? any cracks with anyone?

I don't even need to check my bike to tell you that the top, down and headtube are welded together. No bike company would let something like that slide

they had welds to a hollow triangular brace. the brace was no good so they added gussets.

in other words, they didn't just add gussets to a triangle like gap in the tubing like norco did? its fully welded? no space?

My chumba was really strong. I went big on mine and never a problem, though the rear end is some what flexy; nothing like intense bikes! rear spacing is off when you run the floating brake and 8" avid codes (couldnt space it out enough to not rub the rotor a tad). you'd think for the price, they'd have machined it right to make it compatible; could have just been my frame though--dont know if others had that problem. BUT the drive side chain stay has a serious flaw, which affects all the frames, that kicks the chain into the wheel! This results in a gnarly chain stuck and your wheel will not turn. To remedy, you need to make a little gadget w/ bending spokes or use PVC piping to ensure the chain does not drop into the wheel. even still, i almost died a few times when my gadget would break off and suddenly my chain is stuck and my rear wheel stops moving while pinning it down a trail. Chumba is aware of this problem, but will try and sell you a different chain guide first to solve the problem, even though the problem has nothing to do w/ the chain guide; they're just that skeezy. lastly, the head angle is a little steep, the BB is a little high, and the wheelbase is a little short, so the thing is a bucken' betty through rough stuff at high speed. they have an adapter that is supposed to lower, lengthen and slacken, but they never had any in stock for me to try. now i ride and race a Demo and i'm much happier.
