Which segways into this following point: If you want stiffness and lightness, the Point1 is the best setup that you can buy. However, if you prefer the flex of a carbon bar, you would save weight by getting a Thomson and a carbon bar (Gravity light carbon) [178+202g Sicklines] over a Point1 and a Al bar (Havoc DH) [144+295g Sicklines]. This is assuming 1 1/8" steerer. I checked, both bars were virtually the same width (Havoc was longer by a mm). Both stems were 50 mm. Both were 31.8 clamp. If you wanted to go 25.4, you would save even more with the Thomson carbon combo. For the record, 31.8 isn't stronger than 25.4, just stiffer.

maybe you should go work for po1nt one because obviously you know far more about engineering, design, and durability then them already!

I don't know more then them, I just know more than you which is all that matters.

I listed "science" because it is easier than typing this:

Bachelor's degree in Biology with a Minor in Chemistry and Physics.
Master's degree in Biotechnology

But I have had enough arguing over stems. I like Thomson. Others like other stuff which is just as good. All just opinions in the end...

Cutting the steer leaves you with no flexibility. What if you buy a new frame and the head tube is slightly longer and now your £600 forks are no use...
If you're a racer, that doesn't matter.

Only if you're sponsored by a suspension company otherwise it does matter.

Youd do know that you can replace a steer tube.

Its not easy or cheap to replace a steerer tube. But yes it can be done.
