18-55 isn't really designed for close up photography. Look at getting the Sigma 105mm F2.8 macro. This spider is about 1cm across, I took this photo with the Sigma 105mm F2.8 macro, Pentax AF 540 FGZ flash, Pentax K10D, F5.6, 1/320, and ISO 100

I read my brains out; I read as many photography books as I can. I then go out for hours and take pictures and see how I can improve each photo.

well at about the end of my Christmas my DSLR decides to shit out.

I'm thinking it's the lens, It won't focus either manually or automatically Frown
And due to Xmas, I'm short for the camera I want Frown

simply just doesn't focus, and the manual focus ring doesn't do anything what so ever, usually while turning it, it makes a noise while turning, but it doesn't do anything.

i doubt this is why, but by anychance did you keep your camera on autofocus while manualy focussing?
