Nice, do you by any chance know the frame weight of any of the frames?

7 Point Medium 2007 is 3600g (including 80g rear axle, 40g seatpost fixation, 140g headset, 90g shock mount bolts/spacers) so bare frame is 3250g.
6 Point Large 2009 bare frame around 3060g bare frame.
do you have a 7 inch set up going on you six point?

Yoo I have an 08 7point and I blew up my 66 at Northstar this past weekend. I was thinking about buying a 160mm fork but I'm worried that the bike might feel unbalanced with 7 rear and 6 in the front. What do you guys think?

I think you may find the bike a little steeper in the head angle than you are used to. I would try for a 180 or 200mm for the frame if you are using it to do Northstar. can you get the 66 rebuilt?

Yeah I was thinking about a Totem, 36 or a Vengance. I could probably get the 66 rebuilt but I've been looking for a new fork for a while now so I'd rather just buy one.

The totem or a 180 36 would both be sweet.
180 domains with the motion control IS are a good choice on a budget. I ran one for a season and it was bombproof and very plush and controlled.

Sorry to butt in on the conversation, I've got a stock 7.3 from many years ago waiting for a brake and fork upgrade, so far I've more or less settled on Avid Elixir R's as the brakes, however for the fork I've got a choice of things. I more or less discarded the idea of used, although I could find a better deal I'd rather not risk it. Right now, it seems like it's going to boil down to two or three forks:

2009 Rockshox Domain 302, 160mm, £237
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=41012

2009 Rockshox Domain 302 U-Turn, £252, downside to this one is the warranty would be in Hungary (where I spend my summer) rather than the UK (where I'll be during the year and where I'll be using the bike).

2009 Rockshox Domain 318, 180mm, £280, same warranty as above

How big is the difference between the 302 and 318? Bear in mind I'm quite happy with a fork that isn't hyperadjustable, as long as it's dialled in for my weight I'm happy, compression and rebound adjustments are extras as far as I'm concerned, not essentials. I think the 318 has compression adjustment on top of the 302's rebound, but are the internals any different aside from that?

Also, I only weigh around 58kg (say... 65kg with DH gear?), do you think I would be best off purchasing a softer spring than the one that comes installed in the Domain or is it not necessary?

Thanks!

I'm the same weight as you, maybe a little bit lighter. I have the Medium (stock) spring in and I only have like 15% sag, so yes, you would need a softer spring. The Soft spring is for 63-75 kg, the extra soft is for lighter than 63 kg.

The 318 is very much worth the extra $.
The damping is superior in it's rebound circuit as well as having adjustable low speed comp adjustment to fine tune the ride. It also has a preset hi speed shim stack too. It's a really great fork and is way more reliable than the totems have been.

the shocks are definitely 8,75" a longer shock would not fit as the linkage won't extent beyond 8,75 inches.

i just measured the existing, dunno were the odd size came from on mtbr lol. Have you managed 2 get your headset cups out (the stock fsa) the extractor just slips off the cups and fires out

Some older 7 points (2005) came stock with a 9.0 x 2.75 shock, but you can run a 8.75x2.75. You could also run a 8.5x2.5 and get some slacker angles, but your travel would drop down to around 6 inches.
