Did you buy the bike from the shop? Are you a good customer of the shop?
I would treat your bike shop like any other shop. Go ask for your local auto shop to remove your windshielf for free. I think your expetations need to be modified so that you understand the bicycle industry has little margins for profit and need to charge for their time to keep the doors open.
After all, bike shops are a business, and not charity unless your a awesome guy and the people working in the shop know who you are.
Or bring in some beer to the shop! That works every time.
