I'm 15 and just a beginner on a fully rigid jump bike, but I can hop 12 inches onto a ledge on a good day, and i'm still learning the technique. I reckon if i keep practicing I will be able to get much higher with time.
About 5" for me. Is it just practice that helps you?? I may not have the right style to get high. I used to kinda manual up my front wheel to get it high then lift the back. Don't this it work's to well though.

It is all in practice, once you figure out what you're doing and how your body is moving its a lot easier to figure out where you're going wrong and correct it. Lifting the front first is the best way to do it. The higher the front wheel lift, the higher you can lift the back. Once you get that technique down start tucking your feet up as you hop, it'll give you a couple more inches of vertical.
For my hops; ~30" with touch is the highest ledge, 26" has been my highest clean hop.
I can now do 35" hops over stuff. Not sure about ledges. If you give me tiny little stick about 3/4" in diameter, I can pop my front tire off that and do 42 inches.

Yeah, I have found i can get another 4-5" with a small 'aid'.
