ya bathroom scale will be heavier than it really is. you need a hanging scale, not sure what they're called. and besides 35 isn't bad to start out on.

How did you weigh it? If you did it on a bathroom scale it probably wasn't very accurate. I can't see a 2008 bike being 35 pounds....

As already said, a hanging scale. You can also see if your local bike shop can weigh it for you.
