Buy a Demo 8 1. they r about 4k. but if u don't find the perfect bike, light, cheap, and strong. pick two
a demo is a really good bike, but its not really meant for racing, is it?

they work great for racing. it pains me to say it but sam hill did better on his stock demo than on his sunday with custom angles

Maybe buy a new frame for 1500-2500

then buy most of your components used to keep the cost down; sometimes you find parts that are pretty much brand new, but have been just mounted and rolled on pavement for 1/2 the price off

and this time of year, tons of stuff is on sale too

...like boxxer's, x9, x7, and lots of bars stems, wheelsets, tires

Mongoose Boot'r and Giant Glory probably offer the best bang for your buck. I'm sure it's already been said but whatever haha.

actually for real, you could find a devinci johnson for under 1000 dollars used. like a 2005 johnson for example, you could probably find one on pinkbike for under 1000 dollars and its a great starter bike. its got a pretty good specs list, its not too heavy, it doesnt have too many problems, and its got some sweet frame innovations. check it out man, that would be a really good option - cheap, lots of travel, and a good firm bike.
