I got an "evaluation" Wink copy of leopard yesterday.
So far so good. At first glance it seems stable, and a little snappier.
THe spaces is a nice feature, but I did like some of the features more of the virtue desktop app I used before.
They did a good job improving the finder. It is much more usable and the network shares on it work a whole lot better.

Nothing really amazing as far of features in this version, but if most of the work was done under the hood, I'm cool with that. I just started using it today, so this is just preliminary

Even though I'm getting it dirt cheap, would it be worth the upgrade from Tiger?

i think that it would be. have you seen the vidio on the web site?

Apples are the best computers ever!! I have been using them all my life, would never even consider buying a PC instead. I agree about gameing, but as far as productivity software, you can't go wrong. Not to mention how stable the OS is and overall ease of use. Nothing else compares.

And they're pretty!

its just not the same
a 1500$ apple macbook pro, running xp and OSX compared to a 1500 lappy running XP.
your way better off using the XP version for gaming

Yeh i think macs are a bit crap for gaming lol.

Anyone geting the new leopard? http://www.apple.com/

Eh?

I've been playing Half Life 2 Episode 2 with graphics maxed out in every respect super smooth on my MBP. :/

(Via Bootcamp)

Plus I managed to play the Crysis demo with graphics set to medium on full resolution (1440x900) pretty darn smoothly too, w00t!

Edit: I plan on getting Leopard as and when I can afford it, so many things to pay for at the moment ¬_¬

I have Leopard on my MacBook Pro, it runs faster than Tiger (slightly faster). The install went without a hitch and I can say that it's probably the best OS I've used so far. I actually have this thing running XP as-well for my PC games.

Honestly, this argument is old, up until Tiger, Mac OS X wasn't nearly as awesome (I know, I've been using Mac's forever, forever being since I first went to school back in 92). Now, with Vista being the modern day ME, I'm seeing more and more of my friends flock to Mac for something a little more than half-assed. And Linux, seems to be growing everyday, I think people are tired of the old Windows technology and are looking at better alternatives.

Someone, somewhere, at sometime, will always rant on how mac is better, but the truth of the matter is that windows will always be the top dog when it comes to the OS battle. I've used a MAC from gr.1 all the way up to gr.8 and did not like the interface one bit. Windows on the other hand was a different story. I've always had windows at home from 98-xp, so its a little bias for what I use it for too, im a ex-gamer and just everyday teen.
Hands down though, windows is all over the gamers, you will never see a gamer be using Mac(very seldom).
With most of you, you do video editing, and some (1 or 2)who have never used a Mac are just agreeing, so on this website its bias.

I think you should change the title to Mac vs Windows.

Here are few supporting facts to clear things up:
1) Mac is a PC.
2) PC equals personal computer
3) You can install both windows and macintosh operating system on PC
4) Using a mac OS does not mean it will perform well in multimedia application.
5) Using a Windows OS does not mean you'll get viruses
6) Using a mac OS does not mean it can't play games well. It will play the game just as well as other computers.
7) Using a Mac OS does not mean it 'll do every day stuff anybetter than windows OS.
Cool There's no aboslute best OS. Macintosh OS is great at doing certain thing and it also sucks doing other things.
9) Using windows does not always mean it's cheaper
10)Windows OS can do everything that a Mac OS can do, but it needs smarter people to do it. (Mac is meant for out of box experience and Windows needs some adjustments to suit your needs)

There's nothing in this thread actually talking about Mac vs Windows. All you guys are talking about are the softwares running on top of these OS which has nothing about the operating systems.

Tips on choosing Windows Machine or a Mac Machine or a Server.

For Mac:
1) Do not buy a mac to install windows on it unless you really like the case or you're a hardcore fan.
2) Buy a Mac if you want to spend your upwards of 2000$USD on a computer.
3) Buy a Mac if you're a audio professional whose software are Mac only and don't want to install Macintosh Operating system on Windows machine.
4) Buy a Mac if you want to show off
5) Buy a Mac if you're a starter who never touched a computer and wants a out of the box experience with bundled softwares
6) Do not buy a Mac if you're into video/photo/audio processing

For Windows:
1) Do not buy a windows machine if you're arrogant and think you know everything.
2) Do not buy a windows machine if you look and download daily porn. (that's how you get most of your viruses)
3) Buy a windows machine if you're a moderate windows user.
4) Buy a windows machine if you want to save money
5) Buy a windows machine if you want to try out a lot of softwares and hardwares.
6) Buy a windows machine if you want to play games
7) Buy a windows machine if you want to show off your overclocking skills
Cool Buy a windows machine if you to great valued computer
9) Buy a windows machien if you want to be compatible with everybody else's computer
10) Buy a windows machine if you want to use your computer as HTPC and use Blueray and HDDVD
11) Do not buy a windows machine if you want to do hardcore photo/video/audio processing.

For servers:
1)Buy a server if you're professional audio/video/photo producer
2) Buy a server if you want extreme performance
3) Buy a server if you want to run a dual processor, quad processor, oct processor, or a chain of hundreds or thousands of processor

Great post burnabycentral. The only think I to not agree with is.

2) Buy a Mac if you want to spend your upwards of 2000$USD on a computer.

Macbook=$1200

I have both a macbook pro and a macbook. I use my macbook a lot more because it has better battery life and is more compact to take and use on the road. Also heat's up less.
The macbook pro is pretty much my "desktop" connected to an external screen.

Well... From my point of view

I've looked up apple's website

macbook pro 15" minimum specification is 2.2ghz C2D, 2GB Ram, 120GB harddrive, 15.4" High Resolution Widescreen. The price before tax is 2000$

A dell xps 1330 with LED screen with the same specs is below 2000$. It's lighter, thinner, battery last longer, cooler (temperature). Somepeople might not like the specs but i found it great looking. The price of Dell is the price with out all the coupons that you can get easily. EG. 350$ off coupons

A 2000$ IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad also exceed mac's specs. It's approximate size and weight. The price is before the 40% off coupon that's availiable right now.

The only thing thats good about mac is its style (some people likes it and some don't), its accessories (some like it some don't), and the integration of almost everything including webcam, bluetooth, etc by default.

I've used both Mac, Windows, Linux and i found these facts:
1) linux (other than macintosh) is more stable than both Mac and Windows
2) Linux has better graphic in my opinion than both Mac ( tiger or leopard) and windows vista. ( Graphic effects achieved using X interface.
3) Linux is less likely to catch virus.

In conclusion, the less popular the operating syste, the less likely it'll get virus. The operating system that require the most knowledge to use is free and the one that require the least knowledge to use is the most expensive ( usually). There's rarely any performance difference between all linux, windows, macintosh aside from the drive issues.

EXAACTLY what i tell all myy frfeinds. they always say " but macs look nice" a white slabe of plastice. oh my. i ask them if the've ever seen alienware, they say nno. Alienware is sexy, and if you want to pay for overpriced things, theres where your money shuold go, hands down.

Mac is like areo cholate bar. Windows is like wonder bar.

with a mac, you pay for the same size, but on the inside, you get less for what yoou paid for.

windows, you wonder what you get. most of the time its good, or just aproudct defect, but you get what you pay for, always.

Windows only makes softwaree for a reason. So they can perfect it

mac makes there cases, mother boards, and the bios for it, aswell as bridge controllers and even IDE and SATA cables and power supplies. you make it all, its not gonna be as good.

No name compayn, maek all foods, but the company who makes on kind of food makes it better than them. same thing, get over it. Mac is nevrve gonna match windwos
