I haven't had time to go through every page of this thread, but I've seen some nice pics and some terrible ones.
The point of HDR is to bring back detail in areas of shadows and highlights that would normally not be captured in a single image. The most dynamic range a digital camera can capture in a single image is normally no more than 4 f-stops difference. In other words, if you have nice shadow detail, you'll likely lose detail in the highlight areas and vice versa.
In Photoshop CS5, simply open the image,click on image -> adjustments -> HDR Toning.
And remember, everything is best in moderation. You images should not look as if they have been processed.
