for racing? for racing i prefer flats, so i can stick my foot out in the turns, and its a lot easier if you fall of your bike, you can literaly jump back on.

I think he's just stating his opinion, there is no need to freak out.
I go clips all the way, and if you learn how and still don't like them then oh well don't use them, but you should learn to use them before you judge them.
Flats definatly! Clipins are great for accelaration but ur f*cked if u fall off cause ur still attached to the bike and plus, wiv flats u can stick a foot out on really loose turns!
I come off plenty, but one way or another i always get my feet out. When you go over your ankles twist sideways and the clip releases your foot. Been usin clips for four years without fail.

i agree
Have either of you ever even tried clips let alone gotten good at using them, I have been using them for years and I can bale off my bike and take my foot of in turns (not trying to brag)
Like I said in my previous post, don't judge them until you have mastered them.

you have a good point
Yeah, don't knock them, but some people will prefer SPDs and some people flats. I've ridden SPDs for about two years and flats for jumping for about 8 months and like them both for different things.
Clips all the way espicialy for racing. The advantages are not only to acceleration and power but to controle also. You're normaly only holding on to the front of the bike and kicking the back end around side to side. Imagine holding on to both ends with as much controle as u do with the front, you can pick up the back end and punch it back down where ever and when ever you want with ease. I find it also inspires alot more confidence in your bike and skills, and evryone knows confidence is speed.
As far as evryone saying that your stuck to the bike if you crash or if you wanna take a foot out for a turn, they've eather not ridden clips long enough, need to get their turns down better, or start riding dirt bikes. I've also never been stuck to the bike like most people thinks it happens, I can always get my feet off way before i hit the ground Unsecure image, only https images allowed: http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p233/jf951/IMG_3829.jpgUnsecure image, only https images allowed: http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p233/jf951/IMG_3830.jpgUnsecure image, only https images allowed: http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p233/jf951/IMG_3831.jpgUnsecure image, only https images allowed: http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p233/jf951/IMG_3832-1.jpgnot the best of photos but u can see that my foot clearly came off before i hit the ground
At first they seem very weird but the motion of slideing your foot out at an angle soon becomes natural. I've been using them for almost two years now and can pop my foot out and get it back in just as fast as i can with flats. If u wanna make the effort to get used to them they greatly pay off.
And the whole 5.10 thing with flats is a joke compared to clips, I wouldn't wase your money.
I'd recomend getting a cheap clip setup and practice with them on some trails u know well.
yeah thats why i said they need to work on their cornering cuz at races ill get raged on for riding clips and then i see the dude hit a burm w/ his foot stuck out like a boner
