Coming off a supreme DH, the Jamis was an obvious downgrade, and a way different bike.
Would i say its worse? No, its just really, really different.
Its definitely more of a freeride bike than a dh bike, that being said i noticed flex in the rear triangle BEFORE bottoming out :O
And I weigh 150lbs

I love it when someone feels qualified to totally rip a company based on the fact that they work in a shop that carries said brand (instead of actually riding the bike in question). dude, people are stoked on their bikes, thats why this thread exists. bikes break, especially when you ride them hard. I have an '08 Bam1 that I have rode super hard, and has taken the abuse fine. The silver lining is that Jamis has a great warranty.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to give some advice to whoever is askin bout a Jamis Bam.

Yesterday I broke my 2008 Jamis Dakar Bam 1.0 on this 5 foot jump that my friend has done many, many times on his 6" travel Haro X6. I was really let down that a 43 pound 7" travel bike could snap the chainstay in two places.

Luckily I didnt have any major injuries from the crash, however Im still scared that if I get a new rear triangle that the same thing might happen.

Any of you guys know anything I can do? Ive only had the bike for like 5 months so I still have a warranty on it.

I have no clue what I would get instead! I would probly want somethin with a little less travel though.

Your kidding right?
A brand new BAM 1 for 1200?, that frame retails for close to that, your looking at like 2500 usually..

Yea I bought the bike new from jamis in April of 2009. I bought it like aftermarket, it was originally 2,500 if I bought it in 2008. But since I bought it a year later they took off $500.

I broke my 2009 Bam II twice. The first time the chainstay snapped in half. The Second time the ISCG mounts ripped off of the frame. The other problem is that when I turn hard the tire and even the rotor rubs on the chainstays from all of the flex in the rear end. Then there is the whole tire bottoms out on the seat tube business. I have no paint left. The bike is all in all pretty bad, I have a feeling that they did not do their homework. Hopefully their 2010 bike will be better. I saw George Ryans new BOS equipped 2010 Bam at Highlands last weekend and it looked pretty sick.
