Hey guys, so my plans over the holidays are to sell my d3000, 18-55mm kit lens, FE2 body(film), and 50mm f/1.8G because I am looking into purchasing a factory refurbished F5 body and a brand new AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D (for only about $800 :pimpSmile to replace both cameras as my next two semesters of photo courses at university will all be in either color or b&w film and honestly the digital has just been gathering dust the last 6 months. Cry
Then probably in mid-late February I'll be getting something along the lines of an 85mm because one of my classes is going to be almost entirely comprised learning how to setup and take professional level studio portraits.
So what do you guys think? Does anyone run the f5 and 50mm f/1.4 setup? If so, how do you like it and does anyone have any recommendations for a solid AF 85mm?

Thanks, Pat Salute

*edit:Sorry for the major thread dig guys but I asked the same question in the photogs of pb thread and jonlake bitched for some reason Confused
bigquotesI think you guys are way too gung ho on film, ive seem very few people post decent film shots. Film isnt just an excuse for having bad images. A crappy pic is a crappy pic regardless of medium used.

Take look at the Nikon 105mm f2 if you want one of the best portrait lenses ever made. Seriously though, the 50mm f1.4 is a fine portrait lens.

Thanks man, well in that case I'll prob just stick with the 50 for the time being because I can't justify dropping over $800 for supplies for a class Confused

Quick question here?

What would be a better option:

1) Nikon DX AF-S 18-55 VR f/3.5-5.6 and NIKON DX VR 55-200 F4-5.6G IF-ED ($179.99+239.99 = $419.98 )

NIKON-DX-AF-S-18-55-VR-F3-5-5-6
NIKON-DX-VR-55-200-F4-5-6G-IF-ED

2) Nikon AF-S DX 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II ($769.99)

NIKON-DX-VR-II-18-200-F3-5-5-6-AF-S

Is it worth the $350 for the better more convenient lense?

18-200 is more convenient. IQ wise its not to great i would go with the 18-55 and the 55-200
