Should be date of purchase. Also, through the rumor mill I heard they have completely revamped the chainstays to fix the issue. So hopefully you'll get a new stay and not have another issue.

Well so far all these bikes are all 2010. As wel as mine. I have yet to hear of a 2011 snap. If anyone had one snap IDE love to see it.

Hi, I snapped my 2011 Scratch Air 8 a few days ago too Frown
The Trek support told me that they can't get me a new chainstay, because they don't have it on stock :/

Rehashing the thread to tell my sob story.

Bought a used 2011 scratch air 8 and rebuilt 99% of it before noticing a small crack in my chainstay.

Anybody got an extra? Trek is of no help.
