Price means something but is not really a definitive factor in a nice build in my opinion, prices vary SO much and many LBS are overpriced. A bike could be almost a third more in cost from one place to the next. I did spec my latest custom build out on 3ride just for fun and came up with a price of $2200 something + 13% tax but I'll tell you I have far less than that into by shopping wisely.

ODI Longnecks: $10 (Highly recommended)
Kink Lynx Bars: $70
Kink Empire Forks: $115
Primo Aneyerlator Stem: $65 (Highly recommended)
Headset and Bottom Bracket: $90 (I bought them together, and a lot of that is installation charges. Which is bull.)
Redline Device Frame: $320
Eclat 1 Pc seat/post combo: $30. (Sweet deal.)
Redline Device Cranks: $105
KHE Hollow Pin Halflink: $35
Shadow Crank and Bones Sprocket: $25 (Damn sweet deal.)
Shadow Undertone and Undertaker Tires: Collectively $40
City Lite Rim: $80
Rhyno Lite Rim: $50
Redline Stock Hubs: No idea. Together, I'd say they're $140 Brand new. 2 years old, so I'd say under $70. Maybe less than $50. I'd google it, but I don't care.
Eclat Slot Machine Pegs: Collectively $30. (I wouldn't recommend them. Kinda sticky.)
Eastern PC Pedals: $30
Stolen Vortex Stem Cap: $15 (Highly recommended)

Bike: $1250 if it was mint.
Some pieces are weeks old, but some are years, so I'd let it go for $1000, or maybe even $950. (Probably not. Not like it's worth more. It's just that it's like my bike.)

Not that my bike isn't nice. Cuz it is. And not that it's not expensive, cuz it is, but I still don't fully agree with that statement.
