Just getting back in mountain biking after about ten years off, picked up a rockhopper. Did some DH in Whistler in the past but want to stick to mellower type stuff now that i'm riding more with my girlfriend. Went to Bromont the other day and maybe I didn't go on the right trails (14 and 21, suggested by the staff at the ticket desk) but I must have pedaled uphill non stop for an hour straight. I might as well have been uphill mountain biking Smile The downhill was great but I could have just taken a lift to get the same run and some parts of the 14 run I felt like I should be on a DH bike with body armor. So it was a bit of a day of extremes with nothing in between.

I like the in between. I like a nice trail that flows nicely, no crazy uphill, no crazy downhill, just lots of fast pedaling in the woods with moderate ups and downs.. What are some of the best areas/trails or your favorites within say a 90 minute drive from Montreal? Thanks!

I'm in the same boat as you, just getting back in since about 10yrs ago. I'm headed to Bromont on Canada day with the intention of using the lifts, but from when I went back in the day #5 was really fun for XC descent. They've expanded A LOT since back then though so I'm not sure on others. I have a XC bike so I'm not looking to do much harder than #5 though.

Closer to home in Ile Perrot (like 5min up my street) I've found a huge network of trails, some marked some not. It's mostly flat, well pretty much totally flat, but a really fun time for something so close (and free, and always alone). Check this out: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_BJi4I7cFWBw/R6_QW_PSBnI/AAAAAAAABZ8/z-RATwP7icw/s1600-h/perrot.jpg

It's the only map we've found so far, and they are designated for cross country skiing. So it makes for some surprise swamps here and there. Still I've been 4 times and haven't hit all the trails yet.

Then there's Oka Park which I've heard many suggest, but I haven't tried it yet. Guy I got my bike from suggested driving to the ferry in St. Lazare and going on with the bike. It'll take me right to Oka where I can hit the trails, beach, then ferry back home. Going to try that out in July I hope.

cool thanks for the info, we were going to do #5 but the second half of it looked like it would be a big gravel road so we ended up sticking with #14. i'll go back and use the lifts and try #5 Smile if anyone has other suggestions please add to the thread!

There's really not much activity on this board regarding Eastern Canada. You might have better luck with Club Velo Epic. http://www.clubveloepic.org/forum/portal.php

You can go to Mont Saint-Bruno there's some trails and it's not expensive but they are not big.

Join this club, They have rides all the time in the surrounding areas of montreal. I recommend you be able to speak french tho. Also you have to pay($30) for a membership before you can go on ride with them.
