hell ya buddy,i belive in doing big wildstyles and shit but iv thrown the odd roof top shit down town, old building no big harm and some times it like your walking and you see it and you know that was you
graffiti is graffiti. big legal wildstyles and tags are the same thing. it's all about getting up and style. i personally would rather see one nice handstyle than 100 shit ones, but at the end of the day it's all the same. people write for fame, to get recognition.... with progression comes style and technique, but the reason for doing it is the same. i gave up illegal stuff a long long time ago due to getting arrested a few times.... and now i just enjoy chilling in front of a wall, but it's still all about style and letter forms to me
You start a thread and don't post ANY photos what so ever of said topic...
this thread is epic failure.
the original point (i think) was to discuss wether graffiti is an art, or form of vandalism
here's a pic of my last piece, not my favourite, and it was over 8 months ago now.... Unsecure image, only https images allowed: http://www.flickr.com/photos/letmewatch/6935753831/in/photostream

Still. No photos... no point.
But on the topic... I believe there is a difference between graff writers/artists and graff gang bangers and pure vandalizes. Many of my favorite artists started out doing graff.
Mike Giant Unsecure image, only https images allowed: http://theworldsbestever.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/mike-giant-handlebars.jpg Shepard Fairey Unsecure image, only https images allowed: http://www.fecalface.com/artists/shepard.jpg That is just two example. I know a dude that puts out a graf mag here locally and it amazes me how much quality is out there these days. So much sick stuff. A buddy of mine is pretty big time if you're into the history of it and he runs an art studio.
One of my personal favorites. Apex Unsecure image, only https images allowed: http://www.curbsandstoops.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/apex4.jpg We actually have a couple business' out here that have supported it over the years. My buddy did the sides of quite a few buildings for advertising. A couple huge walls. And there's a local shop around here. Bills Wheels that supports it big time. The whole side of their building is hit up with super quality pieces. They used to do these huge skate and panel jams. You'd show up and there's be a huge skate park set up, bands playing and pieces of dry wall all over the place as well as paint. Just show up and write... or skate.
I'm huge in to it and wish I would have been in to it more when I was younger. I personally believe when you treat it as art it helps develop certain things that you just can't get in school. I'm a font head so I still try to keep up with the current trends as it helps me with color ideas and shapes in my own personal design career.
So... it can be art and it can be pointless. It's usually a crime.

graffiti is about letter forms and getting up. giant and shepherd fairy are street artists, not graffiti writers
Then you apparently know nothing about Mike Giant.
But I suppose I'd agree on the shepard side of the argument. He's always been more about art and message.
I suppose I lean toward street artists... like Roa. Unsecure image, only https images allowed: http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/2643/roaaug10madrid3u1000.jpg but I like solid writers.
I went to school with curve. Was a good buddy of mine. Now he's legit. I know another writer that's currently working as a private curator for a major ceo making nearly $100k a year. Good writers are artists in my eyes and those of many others.
